Located in the southwest part of Winnipeg, Bridgwater is a delightful neighbourhood! It is about a 25-minute drive from downtown Winnipeg. Bridgwater is a larger area and a beautiful place to live. It has plenty of outdoor natural elements, including trails and parks. It is divided into four areas: Bridgwater Centre, Bridgwater Forest, Bridgwater Lakes, and Bridgwater Trails. Each of these areas has something unique and spectacular to offer.

Living in Bridgwater offers access to lakes, forests, trails, parks, and plenty of green areas. The community was developed to uphold the natural elements all around it. The balance was carefully considered before homes were put into this area. Residents love this tranquil area and the ability to intertwine with nature. They balance it with downtown Winnipeg being nearby, where they can work, go to events, and enjoy the nightlife.

History Of Bridgwater

This area is named after Arthur Bridgewater, who served as the chief of police for the Rural Municipality of Fort Garry. He served from 1945 until 1974. He was dedicated to serving the community.

Development of homes in Bridgwater began in 2007. It didn’t take long for people to get excited about the prospect of residing in this area. They loved the layout of the area and the planning for where homes would be located.

A variety of styles of homes are located in Bridgwater, most of them single-family houses. There are bungalows, two-storey homes, and cab-over designs. There are construction projects in various stages around Bridgwater. When homes were first developed in 2007, they were part of a 20-year plan. Many experts believe the new construction will continue beyond 2007 due to the demand for housing in this area. It takes time to get such projects approved. Behind the scenes, requirements must be met before the project is approved and started.

Popular Bridgwater Communities

Bridgwater Centre is a residential area but also offers many natural elements. It is where you will find the majority of shops and restaurants.
Bridgwater Forest offers 25 acres of forest area surrounding it. There are lovely lakes and large trees in this area.

Bridgwater Lakes features three amazing lakes, offering plenty of water-related activities. They are a common location for boating, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. There are also lots of walking paths to take you around the lakes.

Bridgwater Trails is a residential area surrounded by lakes and trees. At the centre is a monumental fountain, one of the magnificent things people remember when they visit this area.

Schools in Bridgwater

There are numerous schools in Bridgewater, offering students a variety of options. Many of the schools are for specific grades. Two elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools provide English programs. One elementary, one middle school, and one high school offer French immersion programs. There is a private school for grades K-12, St. John’s Ravenscourt.

The University of Manitoba isn’t far from Bridgwater. Many students live in this area and commute by car or bus to the campus. They choose to live in this community with their families or in an apartment rather than on campus.

Bridgwater Attractions and Shopping

Being outdoors as much as possible is important to those living in Bridgwater. The trails are designed to interconnect many of the areas around Bridgwater. You will find people walking, jogging, and biking on them all year. They take in the scenery, enjoy the fresh air, and get some exercise.

There are numerous parks found throughout Bridgwater. Most include playgrounds, picnic areas, and plenty of green grass. There are various events hosted in the parks. This includes plays, concerts, yoga, and meditation. Families are often seen in the parks playing games, engaging in sports, or hanging out on the trails.

This community offers many events through the community centres. Most of them are family-oriented, but some of them are targeted to specific age groups. There are several events for the elderly to bond with each other and enjoy social engagements. These community events are designed to give residents a sense of belonging.

Boutiques and larger shops are all over Bridgwater, offering plenty of great shopping experiences. It is fun to walk around and check out what is in them. Bridgwater also has what many consider the nicest gym in the city, Altea. There’s a good chance you’ll see me there as this is also my favourite gym in the city.

Five Restaurants in Bridgwater

There are so many great places to eat in Bridgwater, and it is fun to try new places. Lucky Duck Chinese Restaurant offers an array of incredible dishes made from fresh ingredients. They have daily lunch specials. Prairie Donair is a delightful place for lunch. They offer sandwiches, salads, wraps, soups, and much more. It is a busy place in the afternoons, but worth it if you have to wait a bit!

Adults like to meet up at Leopold’s Tavern for drinks and appetizers. It is a fun atmosphere with great food and company. They also offer burgers and sandwiches on their menu, and there will surely be something to please everyone in your group. Tim Hortons is open 24 hours a day, and it has great items on the menu. This includes coffee drinks, pastries, and full meals. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Gondola Pizza is a family favourite, offering delicious pizzas. You can select from a wide variety of toppings. They also offer salads, bread, and other side items to complete your meal. The prices are great, and many families frequent this place often.
