Mennonites settled in this area in the 1870s. In 1874, a railway was proposed to come through Niverville. The railway was called Niverville, which eventually became this community’s permanent name. Both were named after a fur trader, Joseph Boucher de Niverville.

This area thrived on using the land to grow crops. The main crop was grain, and the first grain elevator in Canada was placed in Niverville in 1879. This area is famous for hosting the first rock festival in Manitoba in 1970.

New Niverville Construction

There was a 29% increase in the demand for housing between 2016 and 2021. Each summer, Niverville hosts the Niverville Fair. It is held the second week of June. People from all over come to enjoy the food, exhibits, vendors, and live entertainment. There are rides, livestock, and educational opportunities. People of all ages want this annual event, and families often take it all in.

The recreation centre has plenty to offer for community residents. They have different sports, an ice hockey arena, and a theatre. The golf course is fun for people to hang out and improve their game. It is a 9-hole course rather than an 18-hole course, but it doesn’t diminish the enjoyment or the challenges offered. Hespeler Park is a fun place to hang out. There are trees, paths, picnic areas, and a playground. Crow Wing Trail runs through Niverville, connecting many segments together. It is used to get around by the locals and for exercise.

In 2021, a delightful exhibit on Main Street in Niverville was opened to showcase the history and heritage of this area. There is a museum in town showing the history of this area. It focuses on the agricultural developments.
