style=\"margin:0;--fontSize:32;line-height:1.4;\">AHI Rent Supplement program<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2 para-text\" style=\"--awb-text-color:var(--awb-custom_color_4);\"><p>The provincial government will enter into agreements with owners\/operators of private rental stock that has been renovated or developed under the Affordable Housing Initiative (AHI), to subsidize a portion of the units in the rental property.\u00a0 The <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.mb.ca\/housing\/ahi_rent_supplement.html#top\">Rent Supplement program<\/a><\/strong> is targeted at low-income families, elderly and special needs households to obtain affordable, adequate and suitable housing in the private rental sector and in non-profit affordable housing projects.\u00a0 The province subsidizes the difference between the approved market rental rate charged by the landlord and the <strong>rent-geared-to-income (RGI)<\/strong> paid by the qualifying tenant.<\/p>\n<h6>Who is eligible for the Rent Supplement Program?<\/h6>\n<p>An eligible tenant must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>have a total household income less than the Housing Income Limit (HIL) set annually by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC)<\/li>\n<li>be a permanent legal resident of Canada<\/li>\n<li>be 18 years of age or older, and<\/li>\n<li>hold a valid Manitoba Health Registration Card bearing their name<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6>How are Rent Supplement program benefits paid?<\/h6>\n<p>The amount of Rent Supplement is the difference between the RGI and the approved market rent for the affordable housing unit.\u00a0 The MHRC pays the housing project the monthly rent supplement and the tenant pays rent as
